The importance of a balanced diet:

Nothing in the body works in isolation.  It is like a giant chemical factory and for it to work efficiently and be healthy, it needs enough of the right nutrient to be present in the right quantities at the right time.  Too much is as bad as too little and creates an imbalance in the processes that go on in the body.

A healthy body has vitality and high energy levels and maintains a stable body mass.  Crash diets that omit  food groups and only serve to unbalance the metabolism can create enormous problems in their own right; such as depression and poor mental function and a malfunctioning digestive system.

Protein: Found in all meat, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes – especially all soya products, nuts and whole grains.  If your weight ranges from 8 – 12 stones (14lb per stone) you will need 38 to 60g or protein from mixed sources.  Cooked brown rice mixed with any legumes is an excellent source of protein, as it has a full complement of the amino acids. 

As long as you are maintaining a mixed diet you can eat 5 small meals a day; 3 of them should contain some high quality protein and the other 2 can be snack of fruit, a few nuts, sliced vegetables a slice of whole grain  bread or crackers and cottage cheese, or a small yoghurt.  All of these and combinations of them, burn up quite slowly thus maintaining a stable blood sugar level so you won’t feel hungry or crave any more fattening foods.  The gain from eating as above, is that one can lose weight whilst  making sure that the body is getting all the nutrition that it needs; and keep the weight off! 

Vitamins and Minerals:

Vitamins and minerals are an integral part of a healthy diet.  They all have to be present to make sure greatest efficiency and good health.  There are certain vitamins and minerals that have been found to help more directly in maintaining or obtaining your ideal figure.  B complex is vital to the healthy function of the digestive tract, liver and nervous system.
